The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today’s PTA is comprised of over 4 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, foster parents and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child!
The Meiklejohn PTA is the school’s largest fundraising entity comprised of Meiklejohn parents, staff, and community members. While some of our efforts are focused on raising funds, our mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
When you join the Meiklejohn PTA, you also become a member of the Colorado PTA and the National PTA - giving you access to resources and opportunities to participate at the local, state, & national level.
An individual PTA membership is $10 per year. The PTA offers additional membership levels that include a donation to the Meiklejohn PTA that helps to fund the Meiklejohn PTA annual budget and the special giving fund which helps pay for school technology, classroom supplies, paraprofessional hours, student enrichment activities, staff appreciation, and more.
No, PTA meetings are open to all families, teachers and administrators. Live PTA meetings are held four times per year.
Only PTA members can vote at PTA meetings. By becoming a member of the PTA you become a voting member of the Meiklejohn, Colorado, and National PTA. This means you can vote to elect officers, approve how PTA funds are spent, and make changes to the PTA Bylaws. Voting is not required, but encouraged if you want to be more active in how the PTA operates. Voting takes place at the general PTA Meetings.
PTA membership dues are $10 per year. A portion of membership dues go to the National PTA ($2.25) and the Colorado PTA ($4.00), but the rest of the dues help directly fund the Meiklejohn PTA budget. Certain membership levels include a donation amount in addition to the membership fee that goes towards the special giving fund, which helps pay for school technology, classroom supplies, additional paraprofessional hours, staff trainings, student enrichment, and more.
There is no time commitment required of PTA members. If you indicate that you are interested in volunteering on your membership form, the PTA volunteer coordinator may reach out to see if you can help out at some point, but there is no pressure! Any event attendance or volunteer participation is completely up to you!
Yes, memberships have to be renewed each year to be an active PTA member and to help fund the current year’s activities.
